  1. Lower Right Hand Scroll Section is now working properly in main game screen.
  2. Menu bar drops down along the right side of the screen
  3. Unknown regressions that the previous versions had from typos while hex editing.
  4. Most of the alternate game menu [when you press the spacebar while in game] are now at the proper resolution:

Here is the UNDERDOG'S VERSION 640 x 480 resolution PACGEN.EXE that is compatible with Windows XP and Vista:

10/10/05:    THIS JUST IN: I'M NOT DEAD!  Confirmed, I have a pulse.
I've been working on fixing the '640' fixed width of the deployment screen.  It's caused by a buffer over-run that I accidently created
when I modified most of the '640' and '639' variables in Pacgen.exe to '1024' and '1023.'  I'm working on fixing this ASAP.
Here is a before picture (current state of the 1024x768 Pacgen.exe):

As you can see, the image width appears to be stuck at 640x768 instead of filling the screen at 1024x768.

Here you can see my latest work (not yet available for download since it doesn't work right quite yet.):
As you can see, all of the Deployment menu's buttons have been relocated to the right side of the screen in 1024x768 mode and function perfectly.  Now all I have to do is figure out where that gray bar is and move it over, then undo that buffer mistake I made earler.  Look for updates soon.

5/1/05: 1 more crash was found and has now been removed. Up to Version 4 of the windows XP mod

4/29/05: Apparently LIMITED success on PACGEN + WINDOWS XP/2000 BUG!!!
I received a save game from an armory member that would crash in XP. The code that crashes is the same as before but in a different area and trying to write to a different portion of RAM. Very strange indeed. Since then I patched PACGEN.EXE yet again! The latest files are down below.

4/25/05: SUCCESS ON PACGEN + WINDOWS XP/2000 BUG!!!
I used a program called OllyDbg to trace down pacgen.exe's crash to desktop error that normally occurs when playing under Windows XP or 2000 and possibly NT. I found the offending command and NOP'ed it The result is that I was able to play something like 6 scenarios of a campaign with no problems, where normally I wouldn't be able to get past the 1st or 3rd turns of the FIRST scenario. The thing is, what I did was a hack, rather than a fix, to actually fix the error will take a lot of work. I probably changed the way the A.I. behaves during its turn. I'm not sure how it has changed, and only a lot of testing will tell.

I will host 2 versions of Pacgen.exe with this Windows XP/2000 compatibility hack, one will be a plain v1.1 pacgen.exe at the regular 640x480 resolution. The other will be the latest resolution hack with the Windows XP/2000 compatibility hack.

Note that this will make dual booting and virtualPC, and all that other stuff not necessary to play Pacgen anymore.

4/23/05: BAD COMMAND OR FILE NAME
Yeah... That error you see below, well there was around 25 of them. Try out version C for great justice!

4/19/05: ERROR, THAT DOES NOT COMPUTE.
Apparently, sometime ago I added a nice error to the .exe while modifying values.
I was trying to change a hexadecimal value to 300h (or 768 in decimal) and instead I changed it to
3000h (or 12288 in decimal.) Obviously that's got to cause all sorts of performance problems.

If you tried the v1.1.28-13 and had problems, try the updated version below.
I'll be doing a code review for now and bug-squashing.

4/4/05 THE NEWS... IT'S BREAKIN' LIKE A 1985 NYC STREET CORNER!
I was able to modify the top in-game menu bar's buffering space:
In plain english, as you scroll, it disappears. When you stop, it reappears
Let me know what you think of the new effect
For the file update below

4/3/05 BREAKING NEWS!!!
Current 1024x768 pacgen.exe now available for beta testing:
Note the following:

This is a hex-edited pacgen.exe to allow for playing in 1024x768 resolution at 256 colors.

DISCLAIMER: This file is not associated with SSI or it's current parent company. I do not provide a warranty for it, YOU ASSUME ALL RISK BY RUNNING THE FILE.

WARNING: IF YOUR MONITOR AND OR VIDEO CARD DOES NOT SUPPORT 1024x768 at 256 COLORS DO NOT EVEN ATTEMPT USING THIS FILE.

I'm new to this sort of modification, and don't know if the safeguards are still there against monitor damage. It works on my IIYAMA Vision Master 404 with ATI Radeon 9500 card very well.

To use the file, simply unzip it in your pacgen directory (it will work with any campaign, any efile) and run the .exe file.

Try out this version under Windows XP or 2000!!!
